Is your Lent going as planned? If you feel like you’ve already failed when we’re not even halfway through, take a deep breath! Sometimes God has plans that we know nothing about. And certainly He has grace for when we mess up and let other things take priority over Him. It is the desire to serve Him, to seek Him, to unite our lives with Him, that He longs for. That’s what this journey is all about, trying to live that out more and more perfectly.
But at the heart of all our sacrifices and good deeds, it is simply us, our gift of self, our loving response to His love, that He waits for. We have a hard time believing that, because we feel so broken and unworthy. But God is the Master of restoration. Turn to Him wherever you find sin, confusion, hopelessness, pain … and let His grace flow in and restore you there. “A broken and humbled heart, Oh God, you will not spurn” (Ps.51). As Jesus said to St. Faustina, “I do not want to punish aching mankind but to heal it.” Rest in Him today. Give Him the sacrifice of a broken spirit and a heart that says “Fiat,” and trust that He will do great things in and through you!
