The Benedictus CD bears the following dedication to Vinny’s mom:
Born LaVerne A. McKay in 1913, Sister Magdalen married J. Arthur Flynn, a professional opera singer, with whom she raised six children. An accomplished pianist, she often accompanied her husband in concert, and music was always at the center of their family life. During the 1950’s and 1960’s she worked at the Marian Helpers Center in Stockbridge, MA.
At the age of 63, ten years after the death of her husband, she took vows as Sister Magdalen and founded a small community of sisters. For the next 26 years, until her death in 2002, she dedicated herself to intercessory prayer, spiritual counseling, and Eucharistic Adoration. I called her Sister Mag-Mom, and my children and grandchildren knew her as Sister Gramma.
For all you gave us, Mom, especially your example of self-less love and of devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist, thank you. May you be blessed anew as often as this CD is played.
